The current fire situation has left its devestation on our wildlife including the loss of at least two wildlife shelters to the fires. Wildlife Victoria are trying to assertain the safety of other shelters in the fire areas and to offer support and help with evacuation of animals already in their care if they need it. Hundreds of thousands of wild animals are killed, injured and orphaned throughout Australia as a direct consequence of human activities. As government resources for wildlife management dwindle, much of the work of rescuing and caring for these animals falls on the shoulders of volunteer organisations such as Wildlife Victoria
